Deir Alla

Deir Alla is a little village in the Jordanian valley below sea level. The trip there is quite scenic but what we saw there was appalling. Many mini camps are spread everywhere. Families of farmers from the Hama region in Syria have mini camps on lands that they rent. They buy their water and some shady access to electricity. Each extended family has it's own mini camp.

The condition these people are living in is below inhumane. We went there targeting cases of leishmaniasis. We saw many. I have never seen this disease before even when I was in Syria. It was heart breaking to force many of these affected kids to get injections in their lesions. Our Dermatologists were great.

I have to admit that there wasn't much of real medicine that I did today as most of the patients I saw were not really sick but requesting medication just in case they get sick. The most striking observation was the sadness on the face of the kids when we arrive. But our humanitarian team did a wonderful job playing with them and planting the smile on their faces.

These people living in these conditions are true shame on humanity. The only solution is to end the conflict.
